Menodus tichoceras was named by Scott and Osborn (1887).
It was recombined as Titanotherium tichoceras by Osborn (1896); it was recombined as Brontotherium tichoceras by Hay (1902) and Osborn (1929); it was considered a nomen dubium by Mader (1989) and Mader (1998).

W. B. Scott and H. F. Osborn 1887 | Dentition : I. 2/2, C. 1/1, Pm. 4/?, M. 3/?. No diastema behind the canine. Second cone on last upper molar united with the cingulum. Probably two lower incisoi-s. Upper premolars with a faint or no internal cingulum. Nasal bones intermediate in length and narrowing anteriorly. Horns elbngate, sub- cylindrical in section at the base, and in side view inclined obliquely forward, so as to partly overhang the snout. Anterior nares transversely narrow and vertically deep, so that the snout is very elevated. Superciliary ridge prominent, rugose, and overhanging the temporal fossae. Orbits rather small and enclosed. A post-orbital process. Zygomatic arches wide and partly flanged. Post-glenoid and post-tympanic processes widely united. |
