Balanus (Balanus) kanakoffi was named by Zullo (1969). Its type specimen is LACM 1209 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LACMIP loc. 305, K Ranch, which is in a Piacenzian coastal siliciclastic in the San Diego Formation of California.
