Cretaceoxylon heteropunctatum

Taxonomy
Cretaceoxylon heteropunctatum was named by Pujana et al. (2018). Its type specimen is IAA-Pb 108, a wood, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is James Ross Island (Fossiliferous site 4), which is in a Campanian fluvial mudstone in the Santa Marta Formation of Antarctica. It is the type species of Cretaceoxylon.

R. R. Pujana et al. 2018Growth ring boundaries absent to indistinct. Vessels solitary or mostly in short radial multiples. Perforation plates simple and scalariform with few bars (usually less than 12). Rays uniseriate to 4-seriate, heterocellular. Vessel-ray parenchyma pits of two types, scalariform and large elliptical. Axial parenchyma common and diffuse.
