Taxonomy
Paleomydas menatensis was named by Nel and Wedmann (2024). Its type specimen is MNT-14-7535, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Menat (MNT collection), which is in a Selandian crater lake diatomite in the Menat Formation of France. It is the type species of Paleomydas.
