Taxonomy
Trophon belcheri avitum was named by Nomland (1917). Its type specimen is UCMP 11094 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 2988, Kreyenhagen Hills, which is in a Pliocene marginal marine sandstone/conglomerate in the Etchegoin Formation of California.
It was recombined as Forreria belcheri avita by Grant and IV and Gale (1931).
