Taxonomy
Plioceros dehlini was named by Frick (1937). Its type locality is Plioceros Site, which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Ash Hollow Formation of Nebraska.

It was recombined as Sphenophalos dehlini by Stirton (1938).
