Asmodochelys leviathan was named by Smith et al. (2025) [lsid:zoobank.org:act: 2D516704-9587-454D-A1D8-990A6A2C6827]. Its type specimen is HNSMWS-2018.1, a partial skeleton (nearly complete carapace, partial plastron, pubis), and it is a 3D body fossil.
