Dioplotherium manigaulti
Taxonomy
Dioplotherium manigaulti was named by Cope (1883). Its type specimen is ChM PV2896, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wando River, Chandler Bridge Fm., which is in a Chattian coastal horizon in the Chandler Bridge Formation of South Carolina. It is the type species of Dioplotherium.
It was corrected as Dioplotherium manigaultii by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Metaxytherium manigaulti by Allen (1926), Fondi and Pacini (1974); it was recombined as Metaxytherium manigaultii by Hay (1930).
