Ophiarachna was named by Müller and Troschel (1842). It is extant. It is the type genus of Ophiarachninae.
It was assigned to Ophiarachninae by Matsumoto (1915); to Ophiocomidae by Jagt (2000); to Ophiodermatidae by Spencer and Wright (1966) and Kutscher and Villier (2003); and to Ophiomyxidae by O'Hara et al. (2018).
