It was assigned to Morosauridae by Nopcsa (1928); to Atlantosauridae by Charig (1967), Steel (1970), Swinton (1970), Dong (1979), Kues et al. (1980), Sanz (1986), Casanovas et al. (1987); and to Titanosauridae by Romer (1956), Bonaparte and Bossi (1967), Powell (1987), Powell (1992), Salgado and Martínez (1993), Bonaparte and Coria (1993), Salgado and Coria (1993), Bonaparte (1996), Bonaparte (1999), Santucci and Bertini (2001).
