Taxonomy
Kenophyllum was named by Dybowski (1873). Its type is Kenophyllum subcylindricum.

It was assigned to Streptelasmatidae by Kaljo (1958), Kaljo (1961); to Streptelasmatinae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
