Taxonomy
Punapithecus minor was named by López and Bond (1995). Its type specimen is MLP 86-V-6-5, partial maxilla bearing P1-M3, a maxilla. Its type locality is Antofagasta de la Sierra, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial sandstone/conglomerate in the Geste Formation of Argentina.
