Phocoena dioptrica (spectacled porpoise)
Taxonomy
Phocaena dioptrica was named by Lahille (1912). It is extant. Its type locality is Rio de La Plata, which is in a Holocene fluvial horizon in Uruguay.
It was recombined as Australophocaena dioptrica by Barnes (1985), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008); it was recombined as Phocoena dioptrica by Scheffer and Rice (1963), Hershkovitz (1966), Brownell (1975), Rice (1998), Fordyce and de Muizon (2001), Mead and Brownell (2005), Colpaert et al. (2015), Jefferson (2021).
It was recombined as Australophocaena dioptrica by Barnes (1985), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008); it was recombined as Phocoena dioptrica by Scheffer and Rice (1963), Hershkovitz (1966), Brownell (1975), Rice (1998), Fordyce and de Muizon (2001), Mead and Brownell (2005), Colpaert et al.
