Balanus imitator was named by Zullo (1984) [Lower Miocene (upper Burdigalian); Calvert Formation of Marland, Pungo River Formation of North Carolina.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lee Creek, Pungo River Fm., which is in an Aquitanian/Langhian marine carbonate in the Pungo River Formation of North Carolina.
