Taxonomy
Acynodon was named by Buscalioni et al. (1997). It is not extant. Its type is Acynodon iberoccitanus.
It was assigned to Alligatoridae by Buscalioni et al. (1997); to Globidonta by Martin (2007); to Alligatoroidea by Delfino et al. (2008); to Alligatoroidea by Puértolas et al. (2011); to Hylaeochampsidae by Martin et al. (2016); and to Hylaeochampsidae by Brochu et al. (2012), Puértolas-Pascual et al. (2013), Narváez et al. (2015), Jouve et al. (2019), Marco et al. (2023).
