Bellerophon maera was named by Hall (1876) [Bellerophon mæra Hall 1876]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Bucanopsis maera by Clarke and Swartz (1913); it was recombined as Aglaoglypta maera by Linsley (1994), Wagner (2023).
