Bellerophon (Bucania) pelops was named by Hall (1862) [Bellerophon (Bucania) Pelops]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Bellerophon pelops by Hall (1876), Clarke and Swartz (1913), McCammon (1960), Linsley (1994), Wagner (2023).
