Pleurotomaria beckwithana was named by McChesney (1859). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Shansiella (Shansiella) beckwithana by Karapunar and Nützel (2022); it was recombined as Shansiella beckwithana by Sturgeon (1964), Yochelson and Saunders (1967), Kues and Batten (2001), Wagner (2023).
