Pleurotomaria laurentina was named by Billings (1859). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Raphistomina laurentina by Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Twenhofel (1938); it was recombined as Ceratopea laurentina by Wagner (1999).
