It was reranked as the subfamily Carchariinae by Hay (1902).

It was assigned to Selachii by Woodward (1889); to Lamnidae by Hay (1902); to Asterospondyli by Eastman (1904); to Elasmobranchii by Leriche (1942); to Galeoidei by David (1943); to Lamnoidei by Jordan (1963); to Galeoidea by Miller (1967); and to Lamniformes by Cvancara and Hoganson (1993), Feichtinger et al. (2024) and Ebersole et al. (2024).
