Oppelismilia was named by Duncan (1867). It is not extant. Its type is Oppelismilia gemmans. It is the type genus of Oppelismiliidae.
It was assigned to Stylophyllidae by Roniewicz (1989); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); to Scleractina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Oppelismiliidae by Roniewicz (2009).
