Cardita benhami was named by Thompson (1908) [TYPE LOCALITY: Early Oligocene (Whaingaroan); Kakanui, South Island, New Zealand]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Venericardia (Venericardia) benhami by Fleming (1966); it was recombined as Glyptoactis (Fasciculicardia) benhami by Beu et al. (1990).
