It was reranked as the unranked clade Belemnoidea by Boyle and Rodhouse (2005).

It was assigned to Teuthomorpha by Kretzoi (1942); to Belemnitida by Spath (1947); and to Coleoidea by Doyle et al. (1994), Boyle and Rodhouse (2005).
