Taxonomy
Basilicus (Basiliella) whittingtoni was named by Shaw (1968) [Paratype: YPM 23293]. Its type specimen is NYSM 12535, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

Synonyms
  • Asaphus marginalis was named by Hall (1847).

    It was recombined as Basilicus marginalis by Raymond (1910); it was synonymized subjectively with Basilicus (Basiliella) whittingtoni by Shaw (1968).
  • Asaphus alpha was named by Raymond (1905) [Not intended to be a formal description. No tye nominated. Treated as valid by Basslet, 1915]. It is not extant.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Basilicus marginalis by Bassler (1915).
  • Asaphus gamma was named by Raymond (1905) [Not formally described by Raymond and no type designated, treated as published by Bassler, 1915.]. It is not extant.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Basilicus marginalis by Bassler (1915).
