Cymella was named by Meek (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-l K Maes]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Liopistha (Cymella) by White (1887).

It was assigned to Liopistha by White (1887); to Poromyidae by Vokes (1980); and to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002).
