Pleurotomella was named by Verrill (1872) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 700]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Pleurotoma (Pleurotomella) by Dall (1881); it was reranked as Mangilia (Pleurotomella) by Clark (1895).
