Taxonomy
Terrapene singletoni was named by Gilmore (1927). Its type specimen is USNM 11181, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 2 miles west of Melbourne, which is in a Rancholabrean coastal horizon in Florida.

It was synonymized subjectively with Terrapene canaliculata by B and Stetson (1931), Milstead (1956); it was synonymized subjectively with Testudo carolina by Auffenberg (1958).
