Reigechimys octodontiformis

Taxonomy
Reigechimys octodontiformis was named by Verzi et al. (1994). Its type specimen is MLP 65-VII-29-107, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Salinas Grandes de Hidalgo, which is in a Huayquerian fluvial siltstone in the Epecuén Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Reigechimys.

R. Sostillo et al. 2014Dp4 trilophodont with small mesolophid (or metalophulid II?) spur. Lower molars with mesoflexid more ephemeral than that of R. plesiodon. Mesoflexid trans- formed into mesofossettid in m1 and replaced by mesofosset- tid in m2 during early ontogenetic stages. Mesofossettid of m1 absent when metaflexid begins to close.
