Edirnella was named by Unay-Bayraktar (1989). Its type is Edirnella sinani.

It was assigned to Melissiodontinae by Unay-Bayraktar (1989), de Bruijn et al. (2003); and to Pseudocricetodontinae by Maridet and Ni (2013).
