Pedicularia was named by Swainson (1840) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 550]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Ovulidae by Ladd (1977) and Ladd (1982); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pediculariini by Bouchet and Gofas (2016).
