Taxonomy
Planaxis was named by Lamarck (1822) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 705]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Planaxinae.

It was assigned to Planaxidae by Weisbord (1962), Adegoke (1977), Wilson (1993); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Planaxinae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
