Parabunodon was named by Ducrocq and Sen (1991).
It was assigned to Haplobunodontidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); to Choeropotamidae by Sudre and Lecomte (2000), Erfurt and Metais (2007); and to Pleuraspidotheriidae by Métais et al. (2012).
