Emys marmorata was named by Baird and Girard (1852). It is extant.

It was recombined as Actinemys marmorata by Agassiz (1857), Holman and Fritz (2001), van Dijk et al. (2014); it was recombined as Clemmys marmorata by McDowell (1964), Bickham (1975).
