Palaeophasianus meleagroides
Taxonomy
Palaeophasianus meleagroides was named by Shufeldt (1913). Its type specimen is AMNH No. 5128, a set of limb elements (distal end of left tibiotarsus, proximal and distal ends of left tarsometatarsus, and broken pieces of long bones), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is East of Dry Camp 2 (AMNH), which is in a Wasatchian fluvial-lacustrine horizon in the Willwood Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Palaeophasianus.
