Palaeospheniscus patagonicus
Taxonomy
Palaeospheniscus patagonicus was named by Moreno and Mercerat (1891). Its type specimen is Museo de La Plata, a set of limb elements (humerus, radius, femur, tibia, tarsometatarsus), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro del Castillo, Trelew, which is in an Aquitanian/Burdigalian shallow subtidal sandstone in the Gaiman Formation of Argentina.
It was recombined as Paraptenodytes patagonicus by Acosta Hospitaleche (2005).
