Taxonomy
Pleurotoma (Gemmula) vaningeni was named by Brown and Pilsbry (1913) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Panama, Colombia.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 3855, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Drillia vaningeni by Brown and Pilsbry (1911); it was recombined as Turris vaningeni by Mansfield (1925) and Maury (1925); it was recombined as Turris (Gemmula) vaningeni by Oinomikado (1939); it was recombined as Gemmula vaningeni by Olsson (1964), Woodring (1970).
