Dracovenator regenti
Taxonomy
Dracovenator regenti was named by Yates (2005). Its type specimen is BP/1/5243, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dracovenator type, farm Upper Drumbo (BPi), which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian terrestrial sandstone in the Elliot Formation of South Africa.

Yates 2005 | A theropod wi th the following autapomorphic characters: a large bilobed fossa surrounding a large lateral premaxillary foramen that is connected to the alveolar margin by a deep narrow channel; a deep, oblique notch on the lateral surface of the articular, separating the retroarticular process from the posterior margin of the glenoid; and particularly well-developed dorsal, tab-like processes on the articular, one on the medial side, just posterior to the opening of the chorda tympanic foramen and the other on the lateral side on the anterolateral margin of the fossa for the m. depressor mandibulae. |
