Taxonomy
Valerymys oreopitheci was named by Engesser (1989). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NMB Bb 55, a maxilla (dext. with M1-M3).

It was recombined as Huerzelerimys oreopitheci by Mein et al. (1993), Cirilli et al. (2016).
