Taxonomy
Paenelimnoecus obtusus was named by Storch (1995). Its type specimen is IVPP V12130, a mandible (dext. with m1 and m2), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Ertemte 2, which is in a Miocene lacustrine horizon in China.

Storch 1995Lower molars distinctly rectangular in occlusal outline; P4 and M1 with very slight posterior emargination; entoconid of M1 and M2 very small (or absent) and closely placed to metaconidd; anterolingual border of P4 forming a gentle curvature; massive condule with hardly any lingual emargination and with very wide and short interarticular area.
