Zaraalestes russelli
Taxonomy
Zaraalestes russelli was named by Storch and Dashzeveg (1997). Its type specimen is PSS 39-1, a maxilla (dext. with P4-M2), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Tsagan Tsav, which is in an Eocene terrestrial horizon in Mongolia. It is the type species of Zaraalestes.

Trigonid of m2-3 strongly compressed anteroposteriorly and paraconid oriented transversely. Talonid of m2 wider than trigonid. Entoconid of m1-3 voluminous, with flat labial face. Hypoconulid of m3 large and distinctly protruding posteriorly. Mental foramen below p3-p4 boundary. |
