Ctenoplectus williamsi
Taxonomy
Ctenoplectus williamsi was named by Close et al. (2016). Its type specimen is NHMUK PV P. 63336, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Greenways landfill, which is in a Ypresian marine claystone in the London Clay Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Ctenoplectus.

Close et al. 2016 | Tetraodontiform fish displaying the following unique combination of characters: series of greatly enlarged, broad, plate-like dorsal-fin spines and expanded, flattened supporting proximal radials inserting far anteriorly along the skull roof; proximal radials with posteroventral shaft overlapped by previous proximal radial; paired premaxillae and dentaries fully fused across their midlines, lacking sutures, anteriorly projecting bulge of teeth associated with fused premaxillae; tooth roots elongate with pointed tips; post-temporals present; well-developed, rodlike pelves; pleural ribs present; anterior abdominal vertebrae with prominent transverse processes. |
