Purpura (Acanthina) plessisi was named by Lecointre (1952) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Pliocene-Late Pleistocene; eastern Atlantic.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is old road of Mazagan, which is in a Pleistocene/Pleistocene coastal horizon in Morocco.
It was recombined as Spinucella plessisi by Vermeij (1993).
