Taxonomy
Cypricardia cymbaeformis was named by Sowerby (1839). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Goniophora, Goniophora (Goniophora).

It was recombined as Goniophora cymbaeformis by Phillips (1848); it was recombined as Goniophora (Goniophora) cymbaeformis by Cox et al. (1969).
