Taxonomy
Lophiotoma was named by Casey (1904) [m. kosnik taxon no: 8286]. It is extant. Its type is Pleurotoma acuta.

It was reranked as Turris (Lophiotoma) by Dey (1961).

It was assigned to Turris by Dey (1961); to Turrinae by MacNeil (1960), Wilson (1994); and to Turridae by Ladd (1982), Bouchet et al. (2011), Puillandre et al. (2017).
