Nucularca was named by Pojeta and Stott (2007) [= Genus 2 of Pojeta 1978. Phil. Trans. Biol. 284].

It was assigned to Nucularcidae by Pojeta and Stott (2007), Bouchet et al. (2010).

Stott 2007Equidimensional Nucularcidae having subcircular shell shape; ornament of growth lines or comarginal lirae; beak set well back from expanded anterior margin; peg-like teeth below beak (convexodont). Posterior tooth row commonly longer, broader at its point of maximum thickness and having a larger number of teeth. Area above posterior tooth row high, forming an auricle-like extension above the ligament area.
