Taxonomy

Velafrons coahuilensis was named by Gates et al. (2007). Its type specimen is CPC-59, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro de los Dinosaurios, 7A Quarry, which is in a Campanian estuary/bay mudstone in the Cerro del Pueblo Formation of Mexico.
