Taxonomy
Conus giganteus was named by Munster (1828) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Eocene; France, Germany, India, Russia, Pakistan. Munster in Kefferstein 1828]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Strombus giganteus by Goldfuss (1831); it was recombined as Ovula gigantea by Lefevre (1878); it was recombined as Megalocypraea gigantea by Karagyuleva (1964); it was recombined as Gisortia giganteus by Dolin and Dolin (1983); it was recombined as Gisortia (Vicetia) gigantea by Piccoli and Savazzi (1983); it was recombined as Gisortia gigantea by Vredenburg (1927), Iqbal (1973), Pacaud (2008).
