Taxonomy
Strombinophos was named by Pilsbry and Olsson (1941) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m T Plio Sepkoski's reference number: 553]. Its type is Strombinophos loripanus.

It was assigned to Columbellidae by Woodring (1964) and Todd (2001); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Buccininae by Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
