Taxonomy
Promilio epileus was named by Wetmore (1958). Its type specimen is MCZ 2716, a limb element (right femur), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Thomas Farm, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial sandstone/claystone in the Alachua Formation of Florida.
