Trominina was named by Oyama and Mizuno (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u Sepkoski's reference number: 158]. Its type is Ancistrolepis japonicus.

It was assigned to Buccinidae by Oyama and Mizuno (1958); to Neptuneinae by Titova (1994); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
